1. What are the legal requirements to marry in Mexico?

Answer: There are two types of weddings performed in Mexico: THE CIVIL WEDDING (Matrimony Civil) and the NON-DENOMINATIONAL Ceremony. The Civil Ceremony changes your marital status from single to married.  Your proof of marriage is recognized as legal throughout the world.  A Spanish speaking Judge performs the civil ceremony.  We are present to translate the wedding vows you will exchange that are set by the State and cannot be changed. This can be compared to a ceremony performed by the Justice of the Peace in the United States or Canada

The other ceremony is the Non-Denominational or Symbolic Ceremony.  This ceremony does not change your marital status here in Mexico or anywhere in the world.  If you would like to perform the Civil Ceremony in your home state, either before or after your Cabo wedding, you may.  Alternatively, you can choose to do both the Civil and the Non-Denominational Ceremony here in Mexico.  For a Non-Denominational Ceremony, you may participate in the creation of your wedding vows or may choose from some of the Officiant's favorites.  You may alter or embellish these vows in any way you like.  You may write your own vows or include special poems, reading, songs, etc.  If you need ideas or

2. Do we need to get our marriage license in our hometown before coming to Cabo?
Answer: No, all the legal paperwork is completed in Mexico.

3. When do we receive our marriage certificate?
Answer: You receive all of your completed documents immediately following the ceremony.

4. How long is the ceremony?

Answer: The Civil Ceremony with the judge and translation is approximately 10 minutes.  The ceremony can be between 10 and 20 minutes from the processional to the recessional, depending on whether you confirm a musician/singer, have other family members or friends participate in the ceremony and other such variables. The length of the Non-Denominational Ceremony depends on the vows, verses, readings selected by you and your Officiant.

5. How far in advance can we confirm our wedding?
Answer: Short notice and last minute weddings are welcome, providing your date is available with the judge and/or minister.  There is only one judge in Cabo San Lucas to perform the civil ceremony, therefore, it is important to confirm his services as soon as possible.  Depending on the size of your wedding and to ensure you have available the best professionals and locations, it is best to confirm the date as soon as you decide that Cabo San Lucas is your destination wedding choice.  If it is a particularly “special” day, like Valentine’s Day, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, or other major holiday, it is best to confirm as far in advance as possible.  We confirm events up to 3 years in advance of the wedding date.

6. What happens after we reserve our wedding date?

Answer: After reserving your wedding date, the next step is to reserve the location you choose for the wedding and/or wedding reception.  We coordinate weddings at many different locations throughout Los Cabos, including beaches, churches and chapels, private villas, resorts, hotels, restaurants and even underwater. We have a Scuba Diving wedding for those that are certified divers.  If you are not certified, we can arrange your certification to be completed with 3 days of training and classes.

7. Why do we need a wedding coordinator?
Answer:  In most cases in the U.S. and Canada, you do not need a coordinator, unless it is a large-scale wedding.  However, in Mexico or other foreign countries, it should be a priority to budget for a professional coordinator.  The majority of people you will speak with at the various resorts are not trained as wedding coordinators.  They are Sales Managers, Food and Beverage Managers, Assistant Managers, or just Sales, and have many other jobs than trying to meet your needs. The wedding business at most hotels in Los Cabos probably does not exceed 5% of their total convention business; therefore, the person you could be corresponding with may not be familiar with “weddings”. When you arrive for your wedding you may find things are not ordered or attended to as you thought they would be and the representative will not understand why you are upset.

Remember, this is your wedding, one of the most important days of your life.  Do you really want to leave this day to chance? Our business function is WEDDINGS..  We have no other jobs other than to see and meet your every need for this special event.  We speak and understand English and weddings.

8. How is the coordination fee determined?

Answer: Our fee is based on many factors: the size of the wedding, the amount of time we spend in planning before the wedding, the actual on-site coordination the day of the wedding, rehearsal and follow up, as well as any other special needs of the bride and her family.

9. What does the coordination fee include?
Answer: We help you with the planning of the wedding from the beginning, i.e.: the selection of date, confirming the judge and/or Officiant are available as well as the location.  We help you with the choice of flowers, music, and photography that is best suited to your wedding, as well as the video, food, beverage and wedding cake. We secure only professional and reliable vendors for the options you chose. We arrange the necessary documents, copy the visas and gather the paperwork from you. We translate the documents from English to Spanish and take the documentation to him.  We assure that the appropriate personnel at the location you have chosen for your wedding ceremony and/or reception receives each and every one of your requests, and we ensure these are implemented. Depending on the size of the wedding, we may arrive at the location several hours prior to the ceremony to once again make certain everything is as instructed.  We are, of course, on-site for the actual ceremony, translating the vows from Spanish to English for the bridal couple and their friends and family. We remain on-site to orchestrate the planning, service of food and beverage items, and to keep things on schedule as well as remind the parties of their roles, while maintaining a peace and calmness among the wedding party.

At the reception, we coordinate the florist, caterers, cake and champagne, band or DJ and all other vendors and stay until the end of the event.   We take care of payment to all the vendors so you have as little stress as possible on your big day. We are there for the rehearsal, and any other special needs of the bridal couple and her family. We are in continuous contact with the resort as well as all other vendors significant to your wedding.

The location you are getting married may have several other events happening on that same day. Their attention will be divided among their guests while OUR primary concern is YOUR wedding. This may include several different trips to the various managers to assure everything is as planned. We have coordinated weddings in Cabo for twelve years, and we are aware of how much time, and planning, is involved to assure the event is successful and stress-free for the bride & groom, family and each and every guest that attends your magical day! The staff at the resort may speak English, but sometimes do not truly understand English, necessitating many trips and communications with the resort.

10. Can we make changes to our wedding plans once everything is confirmed?

Answer: Changes are welcome up to 30 days prior to the wedding.

11. What is the best time of year to have our wedding in Cabo?

Answer: Anytime!  Weather is near perfect from mid-October through July.  August and September can be hot and humid, however, for those fishing enthusiasts this is the absolute best time for big game fishing if you plan on fishing during your honeymoon!

12. How many days before our wedding should we arrive in Mexico?

Answer: We recommend at least two days prior to your wedding so you can relax from your flight and look and feel rested and refreshed for your special day.  However, we also coordinate many weddings for couples that disembark from cruise ships and are in Cabo only a few hours.  All of the required planning is completed prior to your arrival.

13. What is the timing of our sunset wedding ceremony?

Answer: The general rule for a sunset wedding is at least one hour prior to sunset.  This time may vary depending on the size and location of your wedding.  This takes advantage of the flattering and diffused lighting conditions, which is important for your wedding photos.

14. What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

Answer: The sun shines 360 days a year in Los Cabos.  In the rare event of rain, we will have Plan B in place and move the wedding to a covered location.

15. Should we have a sound system for our ceremony?
Answer: During an outdoor ceremony, the sound does not carry as well as an indoor wedding due to the sounds of the ocean surf.  Guests may not be able to hear the Officiant and especially the bride and groom.  After spending a tremendous amount of time, energy and money to make sure your wedding day is perfect, it is disappointing for you and your guests if they cannot hear anything during the ceremony.  A sound system will solve this for you.  We advise you confirm this system if you have a group of 20 or more guests attending the ceremony.  Both the Officiant and the groom wear wireless microphones, whereby the groom’s microphone picks up the brides voice.  This sound system is not to be confused with the microphone provided by the video-grapher, which is for video only and not for sound projection at the ceremony

16. Can the photographer shoot some photos in black and white?

Answer: The photographers shoot in a digital format and give you all of the photos burned at high resolution onto a DVD. From there, you are free to make copies as you so desire. Any photo lab or even the self-service kiosks can turn your color photos into black and white.

17. How long will it take to receive our photographs and video?

Answer: We will make every attempt to get your photos and video to you prior to your departure from Los Cabos however, it can take up to two weeks. We will DHL the photos/CD/DVD to you for a minimal charge per package.  The video takes a little longer as they require additional time to complete the editing process.

18. Are tuxedos and weddings gowns available for rent in the Cabo area?

Answer: There is not a location in Los Cabos to rent wedding attire.

19. Is there a place to have my wedding dress pressed?

Answer: There is not a professional cleaner in Los Cabos we recommend to press your dress.  We suggest you carry your dress with you on the plane, and as soon as you arrive to your hotel immediately hang it up to “fall out”.

20. What are some Hispanic wedding traditions?

Answer: During the ceremony, thirteen gold coins (representing the groom’s dowry to the bride and his promise to support her) are carried in a box or tray and blessed by the priest, then passed back and forth between the hands of the bride and groom until they rest with the bride.  A large rosary or white rope, called a lasso, is wound around the couple’s shoulders in a figure eight during the wedding ceremony, to symbolize their union.  Sometimes an heirloom mantilla, a lightweight lace or silk scarf, is used in place of the lasso. Three wedding bouquets are used:  One is carried by the bride, one is left at the altar in honor of the Virgin Mary, and the third is tossed at the ceremony. The Dollar dance is a traditional custom in which money is pinned to the bride’s dress by each man who dances with her.

  LEGAL INFORMATION
There are two types of weddings performed in Mexico. One is the Civil Ceremony (Matrimonial Civil) and the other is the Non-Denominational Ceremony. The Civil Ceremony is recognized throughout the world as a legal marriage. This can be compared to a ceremony performed by the Justice of the Peace in the United States or Canada. The Civil Ceremony is performed by a Spanish-speaking Judge from the city that you are getting married in (San Jose Del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas). We are present to translate the entire ceremony, including the exchange of vows. These vows cannot be changed, which is why we suggest a Civil as well as a Non-Denominational Ceremony.

Requirements of a Civil Ceremony: 1. Copies of your Birth Certificates, sent to our office upon confirmation of your wedding date 2. Lab work completed in the State in which you are getting married (Baja California Sur) 3. Copy of your Tourist Immigration Form (you receive these on the plane) 4. The first and last page of your Divorce decree, if applicable. It is necessary to be divorced at least one year in advance of your Civil Ceremony in Mexico. This is a government law and there are no exceptions.

The Non-Denominational Ceremony does not change your marital status in Mexico or anywhere in the world. If you would like to perform the Civil Ceremony in your city, either before or after your Cabo wedding, you may, or you can choose to do both the Civil and the Non-Denominational Ceremony here in Mexico.  For a Non-Denominational Ceremony, you may participate in the creation of your wedding vows or you may choose from some of the Officiant's favorites.  You may alter or embellish these vows in any way you like.  You may write your own vows or include scripture, special poems, reading, songs, etc.  If you need ideas or help with any of the words you want to say to each other, your Officiant will gladly assist you.

The Civil Ceremony can be performed in the Judge’s chambers weekdays at 12:00 noon or 1:00 PM only. The Civil Ceremony can also be performed outside the Judge’s chambers at a location and time of your choice.

It is possible to perform both the Civil and Non-Denominational Ceremony, completing the legalities in the Judge’s chambers and having the Officiant for your sunset wedding at a location of your choice. Please ask your coordinator for more information in this regard.
