High heels, flip-flops, and wedges…. Oh my!

The possibilities are endless.

If you are anything like me, ladies, there is nothing I love more than a beautiful shoe. Before I moved to Los Cabos, I was known for my high-heels. Since then, I have replaced my impressive heel collection for an even better wedge and sandal collection. Shoes are a passion, and the first thing I think about when planning an outfit. (Well, maybe after the earrings.)

However, many couples don’t always consider what they will put on their feet when they are picking out their location or the outfits for themselves, their wedding party, and their parents. And sometimes, with embarrassing and sometimes awkward consequences…

You would be surprised how often as wedding designers we hear the question, “How hard will it be to walk down the aisle in high heels during my beach ceremony?” The only answer I can give is “Very, very, very difficult.”

So here are my suggestions and tips to avoid the embarrassment of picking the wrong shoe…

ON THE BEACH

Beach ceremonies are the most requested location in Cabo. We have beautiful beaches, and they epitomize that “no worries” attitude of Cabo. Unfortunately, they are not a friend to high heels or dress shoes.

For your own beach ceremony, it is best to wear flip-flops or just go bare foot. Splurge on a nice pair of sandals for the guys. Have the girls collect their heels before ceremony even starts. Your guests will appreciate baskets at the entrance to the ceremony to place their shoes so they don’t have to carry them. Your mom will look lovely in a simple low wedge heel.

For a special treat, provide your guests with towels or a foot washing station so that they can clean their feet after the ceremony.

But don’t worry if you must have those gorgeous Manolos. If you can’t live without your heels and MUST be on the beach, we can place a beautiful wooden path or coco matting down the aisle and at the front of the ceremony for an extra expense.

IN A GARDEN

Have you ever seen the machines they use to aerate football fields? Well that is basically what your high heels will do on the grass in a garden. Your high heels will suddenly become flats. You can avoid this by simply walking on the ball of your foot or by wearing a wedge. I can guarantee you at these ceremonies you will see me in a simple black wedge.

ON A TERRACE

Have fun! Pick out the most beautiful shoes you have ever seen! We can then compare our finds….

IN A CHAPEL

The most important shoe rule when getting married in a chapel – MAKE SURE YOU BREAK THEM IN FIRST!!! Scrape the bottoms very well on concrete. Most chapels and churches have tile floors, and a new pair of heels will slide right across them. Nothing will ruin that moment of you walking down the aisle like you falling! You might end up on You Tube!

When making the decision about the shoes to wear, stop and think “Can I walk in these shoes?” “Do I want to pay $250 for a pair of heels that the sand may ruin?” You will be shocked how your friends and your shoes will thank you!
